Art department's teacher training at Chigwell School is great success
Posted on 13th Jun 2023 in School News, ArtEach year Chigwell School hold a teachers’ workshop where a professional artist leads teachers through a scheme of work together, with the aim of taking this back into the classroom to make fascinating art with pupils. This year’s workshop took place on Friday 17th March and was led by Artist Emma Collins.
The workshop took inspiration from the work of Yayoi Kusama, an extraordinary, contemporary, Japanese artist working across painting, sculpture, film, and installation. Her large body of work is characterised by its use of repetitive dots. Visually, Kusama's work is eye-catching and fun for all ages, which sparks creativity and enthusiasm to work in her style.
Teachers used circles and dots as their starting point, then experimented with different mediums and paint techniques, unified by bold colours. This artistic exploration led to many creative and exciting outcomes as they created their own abstract pieces of art inspired by all things dotty!
This brilliant, supportive workshop gave attendees an opportunity to meet other teachers and bounce ideas to share and explore further with pupils in their own schools.
We very much look forward to seeing many more teachers attend the workshop in 2024.
