The artwork of a talented schoolteacher is set to go on public display. Olga Houghton, Head of Art at Highfield and Brookham Schools in Liphook, will be exhibiting her work at the Sussex Art Fair at Goodwood racecourse from July 2-4.

The creative Canadian will join fellow artists for a private viewing on the first evening before the picturesque West Sussex racecourse opens its doors for two full days over the weekend.

Olga, who joined the art department at Highfield and Brookham Schools in 2014, said her paintings and mixed-media work were influenced by her extensive personal experience of nature, memories and travel.

The travels of the Toronto-born art educator, who now lives in Haslemere, earned her a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from York University and an MA from Goldsmiths, University of London. She also spent time teaching in Japan.

Phillip Evitt, Headmaster at Highfield School, said: “Olga is a tremendous artist and an extremely popular teacher, and we feel lucky to have someone with such talent and dedication teaching our children. The arts are very important to us and we know the children are in excellent hands as they continue to grow and express themselves. We wish her much success at the art fair.”

The private viewing is on Friday, July 2, from 5pm-9m, with tickets priced £12, which allows ticket holders free entry over the weekend and a full colour, limited-edition brochure. Tickets for the weekend are priced £6 and are available on the door or in advance, but free to children under 12. The fair is open from 11am-6pm on Saturday, July 3, and from 11am-5pm on Sunday, July 4.
