Ashford School GCSE Results

In what has been an unprecedented year, Ashford School congratulate all students on their hard work and resilience, and look forward to welcoming them back into Sixth Form in September.

A special mention must go to several students who not only have been awarded strong GCSE grades, they have continued to engage with the learning opportunities and have done extension work throughout lockdown.

Oli (seven 9s, two 8s and one 7) also achieved an A for his Freestanding Maths Qualification and has made a start on his Extended Project Qualification where he is researching Private Military Companies in Africa.

Matthew (four 9s, three 8s and two 7s) has a passion for computer science and hopes to follow his dreams into a career of Computer or Mechanical Engineering after doing A Levels in Physics, Computer Science, Maths and Further Maths.

Beth (nine 9s, one 8) started work on her Gold Crest Award at the beginning of the Summer and is excited to study Further Maths, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science at A Level with a view to go on and study Astrophysics at University.

Eleanor (ten 9s and one 7) is completing an Extended Project Qualification titled ‘Are there structural changes in the Brain which occur when you learn a second language to make it easier to learn a third?’ and is returning to study French, Spanish, English Language and Biology at A Level with the hope of studying Linguistics at University.

Jeremy (three 9s, five 8s and one 7) has ambitions to pursue a career in Law and has been staying up to date on the current affairs in Hong Kong. He received praise for his scholarship essay on the Hong Kong riots and will be returning to study History, Spanish, Biology and Psychology for A Level.

Benji (one 9, six 8s, one 7 and two 6s) has continued to pursue his passion of playing cricket for the Kent 2s team and is part of the Kent Cricket Academy. He is going on to study Maths, Physics and Biology and hopes to study at Loughborough in the future.

In summary, 52% of grades awarded were 9-7 and 90% of grades were awarded 9-5.

Director of Years 9-11, Mrs Carly Smythe commented on the results saying; “The final months of their School year saw them face unprecedented circumstances, but they met this with their usual resilience and commitment to succeed. The pupils should be very proud of what they’ve achieved and I wish them all the very best for the next stage in their education.”

Headmaster of Ashford School, Mr Mike Hall had the following words; “It's been the most challenging of three months, but I'm proud of the sense of purpose that students have maintained and highly impressed with their engagement with the A level induction course we offered in June.”
