Barrow Hills’ children serve bacon butties in aid of Macmillan!

Coffee and bacon butties went down a treat when children at Barrow Hills School joined in the national Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning campaign, which raises funds to provide support to those living with cancer.

The weekly Friday morning bacon butty sale is something of a tradition at the School but rather than raising funds for the Barrow Hills Community Committee (BHCC), this time around the money was donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. The children hosted their own version of the classic coffee morning event, still featuring bacon butties, kindly sponsored by the School caterers. Holroyd Howe supplied the coffee and cake for those preferring a sweet treat. Proceeds from the event amounted to a total of £455.26.

Commenting on the fund-raising efforts, Cris Martin St Valery, Chair of the BHCC said, “Barrow Hills School is committed to ensuring that children and staff never lose sight of the value of generosity and its ethos has always been to demonstrate care and compassion towards others. Teaching children these valuable life lessons and actively involving them in raising funds for Macmillan helps to shape their views on what really matters. It was fitting that the children hosted their own event and that all money raised should be diverted to such a worthy cause, on this their national fund-raising day. People gave generously as the whole school community came together to make the morning a huge success.”
