Best ever A level results lead to great universities for Reddam House Berkshire students
Posted on 11th Aug 2021 in School News, A levels, ExamsA level results released this week have further cemented Reddam House’s reputation for academic success, despite only having opened six years ago. These outstanding results, which saw 62% of all grades awarded being A*/A, are even more striking considering the two-year course has been a mix of in-class, on-line and hybrid lessons due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Reddam House has been recognised for its outstanding online provision during the national lockdowns by the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA).
Overall, the A Level results were:
38% A* grades
62% A* and A grades
77% A* to B grades
Unusually, for an A level course, almost a third of the cohort transferred to the school at the beginning of Year 13 from another school and had only one year to adapt to changes in course content and a new school. 16% of students overall achieved truly impressive straight A* grades and 52% of grades for those who studied two full years of their A level course at Reddam House were A*.
Reddam House’s A* and A results at 62% are significantly higher than English schools’ reported average of 45%, even taking into account national improvements in grades.
“When the pandemic first hit in 2020, our thoughts immediately turned to our Year 12 cohort and the impact that this would have on them in the middle of their studies. No one could have anticipated, though, the second lockdown and the remarkable resourcefulness our young people would have to show. For some of our students, who joined us from a school which closed into Year 13, the process of switching courses and institutions was compounded by being unable to study in person, so we are very proud of all that they and our long standing Reddam House students have achieved”, said Tammy Howard, Principal of Reddam House Berkshire.
Thanks to their outstanding A level results, Reddam House Berkshire students will continue their academic careers at some of the best universities in the world. An impressive 87% of students received their first choice UCAS places, and 50% of UK course destinations were for prestigious Russell Group Universities, including Oxford and Durham, plus numerous offers from European universities.
Mike Milner, Head of Senior School commented “Since opening, Reddam House has rapidly established a strong academic reputation and our students are consistently securing top A level grades and accessing university places at some of the best universities in the world, including Oxbridge. With more families drawn to our excellent results, teaching and facilities, coupled with the ambition of our students we are confident that we will continue to grow in the coming years. Starting a new school is a tough enterprise and to secure this level of academic performance at an already consistent level is most pleasing. Students can be very proud of their results today: they have achieved so well given the difficult circumstances in which they had to study”.
Harry Bradley, one of the students graduating, said “Reddam House has not only provided a strong sense of community, but instilled in me values that I will take into both further study and the workplace. The high academic quality is matched with a supportive environment, providing the perfect balance of educational and extra-curricular opportunities. It is a place that I will always remember and feel lucky to have attended”.
As a part of the Inspired global network of more than 70 schools across 5 continents, Reddam House Berkshire is delighted to celebrate the success of all A level students in Inspired schools around the world.
