Brentwood School’s sizzling summer of swimming success

Brentwood School is celebrating a summer of sizzling swimming successes with students securing a plethora of gongs at the English National Swimming Championships.

Fourteen-year-old Jacob Stephen struck gold in the Men’s 13-14 Years 50m Breaststroke, taking the national title with a lifetime’s best time of 32.16.

Brentwood’s Amelia Moule won a silver medal at the National Summer Meet in the Women’s 16 Years 400m Freestyle (swimming a personal best in the process) and a bronze in the Women’s 16 Years 800m Freestyle.

The event, which was held at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Pool, is the largest event on Swim England’s domestic calendar and hundreds of the country’s best age group swimmers compete for honours during the five days of competition.

And the medals didn’t end there for 16-year-old Amelia. Within days she was competing in the Swim England Open Water National Age Group Championships 2019 held at Thrybergh Country Park, in Rotherham, seizing silver in the 5k Swim in a time of 1:03.22.

The Swim England Open Water National Age Group Championships is the premiere competition for young open water swimmers in England.

Headmaster Ian Davies congratulated both Jacob and Amelia on their outstanding performances praising both students for their commitment and determination: “Their success shines a spotlight on the strength of Brentwood School’s swimming programme, the hard work put in by our Head of Swimming, Mrs Nikki Watson, and the sacrifices that swimmers have to make to be the very best in their sport.”
