Cambridge offers for Felsted School pupils

The start of a new term at Felsted School has seen some excellent university offers for pupils so far, with 122 offers from Russell Group universities, including three from Cambridge, 22 from Exeter, 10 from Warwick, 9 from Birmingham and 8 from Queen Mary’s and Leeds, including a number of unconditional offers. We also have a number of students who have received offers from top universities and business schools in Europe and the USA, alongside some who are in the final interview stages for leading degree apprenticeships.

Tilly Wigan, age 17 from Halstead, has received an offer of A*AA to read Modern Languages (French and Spanish) at Cambridge. Tilly, who joined Felsted for the Sixth Form as a weekly boarder to study A levels in French, Spanish and Psychology, has already taken advantage of many opportunities, including a trip to Uganda last summer, where she helped improve learning for the children at Felsted’s partner school, Great Lakes High, through the Teach Uganda charity scheme. Tilly’s interest in languages began at a young age when she lived in Paraguay, where her bilingual grandpa would often be able to switch between two tongues fluidly, inspiring Tilly to want to study more about how languages connect and develop.

Tilly comments, ‘I have had so much support from everyone at Felsted, especially the Modern Foreign Languages department who have really helped me improve my confidence and prepare for my interview.’

Jack Huang, aged 18 from China, received an offer of A*A*A to read Mathematics at Cambridge, an ideal step towards his career ambition of becoming a Professor.

Jack, a full boarder at Felsted, holds the school’s prestigious Wallis Scholarship, named after former Felstedian and mathematician John Wallis, who is most famous for inventing the infinity symbol. The Wallis Scholarship is awarded annually to a pupil who shows great potential and passion in maths and intends to study this at the highest level at university and beyond. Jack, who is taking Maths, Further Maths and Physics at A level, balances his studies by playing badminton, one of Felsted’s many extracurricular activities.

Jack comments, ‘I was inspired by former Felsted pupils who had followed their passion for maths and felt that Felsted was the right place for me to further my studies.’

Olga Adhikari, 17, an international boarder from Poland has also gained an offer from Cambridge to read Asian and Middle Eastern Studies with Persian and Arabic. Olga, a school prefect, is currently taking the IB Diploma studying Biology, History and English at Higher Level.

These offers reflect the government league table release last week that saw Felsted top in Essex and in the top 5% of schools in the UK for academic progress at A levels.
