Cancer scare sparks hair-raising philanthropy at Brentwood School

A cancer scare sparked a Brentwood School teacher’s charity fundraiser which will see her wave goodbye to her crowning glory and in turn help change the life of a child who has lost their hair through illness.

Head of KS3 Drama, Mrs Daniella Veares, is donating 14 inches of her beautiful tresses, her ‘pride and joy’, to the Little Princess Trust who provide wigs to children with cancer. She is also raising an additional £550 to cover the cost of one wig which will be given to a child for free.

Mrs Veares, who is super protective of her aubyn mane and gets stressed when having a trim, explained what inspired her to make such a sacrifice. “Recently, a battle with my own health issues changed my perspective on life. My own cancer scare made me think about how scary it could be to lose my hair and this made me realise how important hair is to people and children.

“I have been blessed with very long hair (which I love) for, well...forever! But, since it's the season for giving, what better present could I give to a child this Christmas season.”

And Mrs Veares’ students are fully behind her fundraising efforts. One such student, Skye L, posted: “Good luck Miss! I along with the rest of the Form are so proud of you for doing this amazing thing for charity, it proves the already known idea of how incredible and thoughtful you are!”
