Churcher's College pupils learn to live like Navy Cadets
Posted on 6th Oct 2017 in School NewsChurcher's College Senior School 3rd Years thoroughly enjoyed an intense and thrilling stay at HMS Bristol this week.
The retired vessel, once a guardian of the Fleet against air attack and a veteran of the Falklands War, HMS Bristol is now a training and accommodation ship in Portsmouth Harbour.
Students were given weapons training by learning how to fire rifles at a shooting range as well as taking part in a low ropes and assault course.
The whole experience was aimed at teaching the students what it is like to be in the Royal Navy and that authenticity even came down to being asked to march around the site and sleeping in real cadet bunk beds!
Students at Churcher's start their CCF (Combined Cadet Force) activities in the 3rd Year, and with only 3 weeks in, this was truly jumping in at the deep end - in some cases quite literally! A great time was had by all!
