Cranleigh School triathletes and pupils from 16 local schools raise over £1.2 million for charity

On Sunday 15th May, 770 school children came together at Cranleigh School to take part in the Flight Centre Schools Triathlon. In teams of four, they swam, cycled and ran to raise over £72k. An inspiring story of local children supporting young people around the world.

This is a national series organised by global youth charity, Restless Development. This year, more than 6,000 pupils took part to raise over £600k; which will support more than 80 charities. Every pound raised will be doubled by the UK Government as part of UK Aid Match, bringing the grand total to £1.2m. Thanks to event sponsors, Flight Centre and Knight Frank the much needed funds raised will go directly to charity.

Cranleigh School has hosted the event since 2017. It was a truly community centered day, with local businesses and over 2,000 attendees coming together for a feel-good event. Generous volunteers and Cranleigh pupils kindly gave up their Sunday to ensure the event ran smoothly.

Lots of inspiring stories came out of the day including Isabella (age 7) who was told by doctors that she would never ride a bike or master swimming. She defied expectations by completing the triathlon with her team, ‘Guacamole Force’. Isabella inspired many with her determination and she raised £1,340 for charity.

Debbie Jones, Isabella’s mother, said: "I am so pleased that she was brave enough to put her hand up to take part, her challenges will continue with academics and sports but she has determination in spades and hopefully this will see her through."
