DLD College London marks World Book Day with library opening
Posted on 7th Mar 2019 in School News, Events, New facilities, AchievementsDLD College London marked the official opening of its new library this World Book Day (7 March). The guest of honour, Director of the London Library Philip Marshall, cut the ribbon and announced the library to be officially open.
Philip gave an address to students and staff alike about the important role libraries play in the cultural life of a country before presenting Anna, a Year 12 student, with annual membership of the London Library. This was in recognition of her outstanding academic progress in English, Classical Civilization and History of Art.
DLD College also welcomed back Russell Frost who runs his own letterpress print and design company, Hooksmith Press, based in the East End of London. Throughout the morning, Russell was stationed in DLD College’s impressive atrium where he demonstrated to students how to hand-set typeface, roll on ink and operate the press. Many students (and some members of staff) went home with beautiful letterpress prints.
DLD College London Principal Irfan Latif commented, ‘It was an honour to welcome Philip into the College to declare our new library officially open and we hope that this occasion also marks the beginning of a long and fruitful affiliation between London Library and DLD College London.
‘The opening of our new library was an enriching and festive occasion which was a great way to celebrate World Book Day and the importance of reading.’
