Dressage and Jumping success for Brentwood School’s Equestrian team

Brentwood School’s Equestrian team performed with determination and skill at the NSEA National Championships in Addington Manor, Buckinghamshire, finishing in the top 8 in the country for both dressage and jumping.

Brentwood’s riders qualified for last month’s prestigious event, which sees over 900 children and horses compete in various disciplines and levels, following a successful season.

The team of Charlotte Cooke, Emma Philpot, Sophie Philpot and Imogen Pohl kicked off the Championships with polished rounds to come 7th in the ‘85 Jumping with Style’ event. Emma Philpot then carried on the successful run the following day with a superb podium finish coming third individually in a strongly contested ‘105 Jumping with Style’. The team was then 5th and 7th in the ‘95 Jumping with Style’ with the same riders on their second ponies making the second team.

Team Manager, Mrs Kelly Giles, explained: “To double place on different ponies was a confirmation of how well they rode, as style not just clear rounds, are taken into consideration with Jumping with Style classes.”

Unfortunately Lily Tappin, who had secured four qualifications for the Championships, could not compete because her horse was injured and Mrs Giles paid tribute to the Fifth Year student. “Lily’s hard work is a tribute to the team and it was wonderful to have her support and help during the event.”

Brentwood School’s dressage team was also accurate and skilful to finish 8th and again this was on the same versatile ponies that had also jumped so well all weekend. Mrs Giles said: “Although Charlotte had not qualified individually, she headed her section for the team with a really lovely test. Well done Charlotte. Imogen qualified for the individual dressage to come in the top 20 in the country and Emma also qualified on her two rides placing her in the top 12.

“A fantastic result for both Imogen and Emma. The team also put in great rounds in the 95 and 105 show jumping with the younger girls jumping the biggest courses they have tackled yet.

“All of the riders throughout the season have ridden with passion, commitment and skill. As a team, made up of students in different year groups, they show a variety of talents and have supported each other consistently. Being placed in the top 8 in the country for both dressage and jumping is an accolade to the School and their hugely committed parents. A special thanks has to go to the team coach Mrs Annette Philpot for her dedication, organisation and knowledge.”
