Flick Drummond MP visits St Swithun's School
Posted on 13th Oct 2023 in School NewsSt Swithun’s thoroughly enjoyed welcoming Flick Drummond MP to the school earlier this week. The Meon Valley MP and Conservative candidate for Winchester enjoyed an insightful visit that bridged the gap between education and politics.
Mrs Drummond’s visit included touring the senior school with director of partnerships, Simon Mayes, to discuss the work the school does both in the local community and beyond. She also met with senior school head, Jane Gandee, and toured the prep school with new head Liz Norris. The members of prep parliament were particularly interested to meet her.
One of the highlights of Mrs Drummond's visit was her interaction with a number of A Level politics students, offering them a first-hand insight into the life of a Member of Parliament. Her insights and candid answers to their questions provided valuable lessons on civic engagement and the workings of government.
To round off her visit Mrs Drummond enjoyed lunch with the prep school students. This allowed our youngest learners to connect with a local Member of Parliament and learn more about her role in our community.
Flick Drummond said of her visit: “I was truly inspired by the bright minds and the enthusiasm of the students at St Swithun’s. Hearing their aspirations and discussing the issues that matter to them was uplifting as well as learning about the work the school does in our local communities. The future is in capable hands, and it's a privilege to be a part of their educational journey.”
Senior school head Jane Gandee expressed gratitude for the visit, saying: "Having Mrs Drummond visit our school was an invaluable experience for our students. It demonstrated to them the tangible link between education and politics, and how MPs are genuinely interested in the views of their future constituents.
