Former Talbot Heath Pupil awarded MBE
Posted on 11th Jun 2019 in School News, AchievementsCongratulations go to former Talbot Heath pupil, Lynette Adjei (née Wright), who was recently awarded an MBE (‘Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire’) in the 2019 New Year Honours. Mrs Adjei received her award at Buckingham Palace at the start of April, from His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, for Services to Adoption and Fostering Recruitment. On receiving her award Mrs Adjei said it was, ‘A fabulous and unforgettable day.’ She was accompanied by her husband Nicholas, and three of her four children.
Lynette left Talbot Heath in 1985 to study a Music Honours degree at the University of Surrey, then went to City University London where she obtained an MA in Arts Management. Now currently living in Birmingham with her family, Lynette dedicates a substantial amount of her time to her various roles: she is a Volunteer Community Ambassador for two national charities, ‘Meningitis Now’ and ‘The Sickle Cell Society’, and actively involved in fundraising and in raising awareness through presentations and media engagement. She also serves on Public Health England’s national Sickle Cell & Thalassemia Service Outreach Advisory Group.
She remembers Talbot Heath school fondly: ‘I was thrown into the Talbot Heath community from a great distance (6,600Km), and although I was homesick at times, I found myself inspired and nurtured by Miss Austin-Smith and her team… this solo adventure, though extremely daunting at the start, simply gave me a fondness for a new part of Britain, most particularly Talbot Heath school. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Talbot Heath – the education I received, the experiences I was exposed to and the breadth of people I encountered – helped to craft the person that I am today.’
