Generous King’s Ely students donate Christmas packages to Ely Foodbank
Posted on 10th Dec 2020 in School News, Charity and community workCommunity spirited King’s Ely pupils have donated dozens of shoeboxes filled with festive goodies to Ely Foodbank.
Year 12 students in Withburga House, which is one of King’s Ely Senior’s Girl Day Houses, launched their Christmas shoebox initiative earlier this term and set out to fill as many empty shoeboxes as they could with festive food items, treats and small toys/activities.
The kind hearted Sixth Formers got Withburga girls from all year groups on board and, as a result, they have filled and donated 35 festive shoeboxes to Ely Foodbank, which volunteers will now be distributing to local families in crisis in the run up to Christmas.
Sue-Ellen Godde, Housemistress of Withburga, said: “The girls and their families have been so generous and thoughtful with their shoeboxes, and we hope this brings some joy to families in this time of need. The foodbank volunteers were overwhelmed by the girls’ generosity and were very grateful to receive so many shoeboxes. Thank you to the Year 12 girls for launching this initiative and driving it with the other forms, and Mr Atkinson for organising this with the foodbank.”
