A Level students from Gordon’s have recorded an outstanding set of results, in which all passed three or more A Levels with over 58% achieving A*-A grades, well over the national average. BTEC students are also celebrating after securing an average grade of distinction.

In this second year of the COVID pandemic, students were awarded their grades by teachers, based on a series of supervised examinations as well as consideration of their performance over the past two years of study. With over 80.3% achieving A*-B and eight set to read medicine, 87% have achieved their preferred university, with many now off to the world’s leading universities. This will ensure Gordon’s place for another year as one of the top performing non-selective state schools in the country.

Also celebrating from the non-selective, co-educational boarding school in West End, Surrey were sportsmen and women who learned they would be studying in American universities with scholarships.

Headmaster Andrew Moss said: “Students underwent a rigorous process to achieve these results. These results are outstanding and testament to the resilience and ability of our students and staff in the face of what has been an incredibly difficult two years. We are delighted at what they have achieved given all that they have had to contend with.”

Student Charles Aldridge, who learned that his A* A* A results in Biology, Chemistry and Maths have earned him a place at UCL reading medicine said he was “thrilled” with his results, his mother Roseanne added: “The school has been terrific. I have been absolutely delighted with Gordon’s!”

As well as spending his time studying, Charles also managed to raise £1,000 earlier this year for MIND mental health charity, running four miles every four hours for 48 hours!

He discovered his passion for medicine after breaking his collar bone. His EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) research on sleeping and effective learning, published by the national magazine Medic Mentor advocated sleep as the most effective way of getting the best exam results!

Emma Cohen’s three A* grades in Biology, Chemistry and Maths will see her heading to Cambridge University to study medicine in October. Admitting that the lead-up had been “challenging”, Emma said: “I am delighted”, adding that she was looking forward to Cambridge particularly because of the way in which the course is taught.

Celebrating in his home in Cape Town, Kevin Raffaelli, a Residential Boarder at Gordon’s for the Sixth Form, achieved four A* grades in Chemistry; Physics; Further Maths and Maths and is off to Leeds University to study computer science with AI. The keen sportsman who stopped his appearances on the rugby and football pitches to concentrate on his A Levels, said: “I put lots of effort into my A Levels – I put the hours in”.
