Gordon’s tonic for lockdown
Posted on 22nd Apr 2020 in School News, MusicWest End, London is coming to West End, Woking as Gordon’s School House Parent Ben Heathcote is providing a welcome tonic for stay at home families with his impromptu music evenings.
Ben, who heads up a Residential Boarding House at the school along with wife Danielle, boasts starring roles in ‘The Lion King’; ‘Mamma Mia’ and ‘Return to the Forbidden Planet’. He has taken up residence on the school’s Front Field in West End with his guitar for two gigs with more planned.
While those living in the area have been able to listen to his range of rock and pop songs from their gardens in West End, the sessions have been live-streamed through the school’s Facebook page (@GordonsSch) and viewed around the world by over 2,500 people.
His songs, ranging from Lewis Capaldi to Rod Stewart have given a lift to all, with requests for more live events.
Lorraine Parkings watching with her husband from Spain enthused “Loving every minute of this”. Other comments included “Definitely cheered us up”; “It was brilliant. We were singing along and watched from the garden on a big screen, it was just like being at a festival”.
Ben, who has worked alongside artists such as Brian May, Ray Davies, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lin Manuel Miranda, Emily Blunt and Ben Elton, has toured in the UK and overseas and entertained troops in Cyprus, Bahrain, Dubai; Afghanistan and the Falklands. He also runs the sell-out Heathcote’s Comedy Club from the Rowbarge in St Johns, Woking. He commented: “It's been great to hear that so many people have enjoyed these impromptu sessions at Gordon's and found them uplifting in these uncertain times.
“Music is my passion and it's great to be able to share some of my favourite songs knowing that others are singing along at home too….lifting their spirits!”
Weather-permitting, Ben’s next gig will be live streamed on Friday 24th April from 6.30pm through @GordonsSch.
