Highfield and Brookham Schools named as top Hampshire prep school for cricket
Posted on 30th Nov 2020 in School News, SportHighfield and Brookham Schools in Liphook has been named as the top prep school for cricket in Hampshire. The Cricketer Schools Guide 2021 announced their Top 50 Prep Schools on Thursday 26th November and only one prep school in Hampshire made the cut, Highfield and Brookham Schools.
Every year The Cricketer follows an exhaustive selection process where all schools are judged against an extensive set of criteria, including a compelling commitment to cricket in the curriculum, facilities, fixture programmes and coaching. This year saw a record number of schools submit entries despite the ongoing pandemic.
Simon Hughes, The Cricketer editor said; “This year’s Schools Guide is particularly important in showcasing our schools who have kept the game alive through a very challenging summer. There should be deserved praise for all the teachers, coaches and volunteers who have put in so much hard work, in the most difficult of circumstances, to preserve a love of the game among the next generation.”
All Highfield and Brookham, pupils returned to school for the last two weeks of the Summer Term and spent the afternoons playing cricket. As there were no formal external fixtures, the children had the opportunity to play in mixed boys’ and girls’ teams for the very first time. This was such a success that they are looking to build on mixed cricket this coming season and will look for external fixtures that will facilitate this. As well as being named one of the Top 50 Prep Schools, Highfield and Brookham’s fantastic cricket provision is further proven by the number of pupils that play for Liphook and Ripsley, Fernhurst, and Grayshott Cricket Clubs as well as the Hampshire Hogs.
Phillip Evitt, Headmaster at Highfield School said; “We are all overjoyed to be the top prep school in Hampshire for cricket. Our grounds and facilities are second to none. We have the capacity to hold 11 matches at once, and standing at our Pavilion it is possible to see every single match being played. Nowhere else on our sports circuit is that possible.”
