Highfield and Brookham Schools pupil camps out for the NHS

For the entire month of May, Stewart, from Haslemere, Surrey has camped out in a tent in his garden to raise funds for NHS Charities Together. Although a night or two camping might seem fun, 31 days of doing this with some quite chilly nights at the start of the month is quite an undertaking, particularly by yourself at the age of just 11-years-old.

So far Stewart, who is a pupil at Highfield and Brookham Schools in Liphook, has raised £705 for NHS Charities Together. NHS Charities Together provide extra vital funds and services to NHS hospitals, ambulances, mental and community health trusts and health boards. This funding is above and beyond what the government provides and is spent on enhancing care and experience of patients.

At the heart of Highfield and Brookham Schools is their aim to give back to the local community and make a positive impact on society. Over the past couple of months, they have seen the majority of their children and families take part in charitable projects and fundraising – shaving their heads, making PPE, baking cakes for doctors’ surgeries, donating food to the elderly and vulnerable and fundraising for NHS charities to name but a few.

Phillip Evitt, Headmaster at Highfield School said, “We place great importance on our children understanding their place in the wider community. Stewart has impressed us all with his commitment to raising money for such an important cause. As a school, we are acutely conscious of the importance of service and care to others and Stewart has been great role model for this.”
