Holme Grange School – recycling theme wins school tree competition
Posted on 28th Nov 2019 in School News, Competition, WinnersHolme Grange School in Wokingham has won first prize in Squire’s Garden Centres.
The children had to design and make their own tree decorations and hang them on a special tree at Squire’s. They beat off local competition to win the best-decorated tree as voted for by customers at Squire’s in Wokingham.
Holme Grange School made all of their decorations entirely from recycling, with a poignant “Save Our Seas” message. They made paper chains, a paper bauble featuring Sir David Attenborough, and at the top of the tree, instead of an angel there is a turtle made from a plastic cup cake box!
Sarah Squire, Chairman of Squire’s Garden Centres commented, the children “...created some beautiful decorations and we were very impressed with their skills. The recycling theme from Holme Grange School was unique, and it really captured customers’ imaginations. In fact we had so many people voting that we had to print more voting slips! It was a pleasure to have all the children at Squire’s while they decorated their trees, and we will be rewarding the winners with goody bags.”
The school Christmas trees will be on display at Squire’s in Wokingham until Sunday 1st December. Squire’s Garden Centre, Heathlands Road, Wokingham, RG40 3AS.
