Ipswich School is national top twenty for school sport
Posted on 26th Jan 2023 in School News, Achievements, SportIpswich School has been named one of the top twenty schools nationally for its sports programme by this month’s School Sport Magazine.
The school is at number 18 in the 2022 list, a rise of over 100 places from the previous year. The list includes both state and independent schools, and Ipswich School is the only school from Suffolk in the top 20.
In 2022, Ipswich School enjoyed a bumper year of success that included national semi finals and beyond in three of the four focus sports: cricket, hockey and rugby. Achievements such as the U18 boys national indoor hockey champions, U15 girls national T20 cricket champions for the second year in a row, U14 girls hockey national bronze medallist and U15 boys rugby national cup semi finalist highlighted the strength and range of Ipswich School’s sports programme. In 2022 more pupils than ever before competed for Ipswich School and benefited from the professional sporting provision.
The school’s rugby programme is ranked 9 in the country by NextGenXV and at the recent 2023 indoor hockey championships, the U18 boys and U16 girls were both in the top three nationally.
Nicholas Weaver, Ipswich School Headmaster, said: “Congratulations to our pupils and staff on this outstanding achievement. Our sports programme at Ipswich School is designed to cater for every pupil, whilst giving elite opportunities for our top athletes. I am delighted that we have been recognised with this accolade. Well done to all our pupils and staff for their ambition, determination and support for one another.”
