King's College celebrates official opening of Sixth Form Centre

On Saturday 9 September Sir Michael Barber, Chancellor of Exeter University, officially opened the state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre at King’s College. The occasion marks a momentous milestone in the school's history and underlines the school’s confidence and sense of optimism for the future.

Distinguished guests and community members joined staff to commemorate this significant event, and Sir Michael Barber, an eminent figure in the education sector, delivered an inspiring keynote address, emphasising the importance of providing pupils with the best possible resources for their educational journey.

The King's College Sixth Form Centre stands as a testament to the school's commitment to excellence in education. Designed to meet the evolving needs of sixth form pupils, the building is flexible, technologically advanced and anchored in sustainable energy principles. It fosters academic growth, critical thinking and personal development by providing opportunities for collaborative working, formal and semi-formal academic experiences and discussions. Its cutting-edge facilities, including state-of-the-art classrooms, a Creative Learning Space, Futures Room, breakout areas and a café, create an atmosphere conducive to nurturing the talents and aspirations of young minds and provide a seamless transition between school and university study.

Over the past two terms, the Sixth Form Centre has played a pivotal role in supporting pupils as they pursue their A-level studies. Its sophisticated infrastructure and resources enable teachers to deliver engaging lessons, whilst providing pupils with opportunities to collaborate, explore and extend their learning beyond the classroom. The Centre has quickly become a hub of intellectual curiosity and academic excellence, driving pupils to reach their full potential and achieve outstanding results.

Headmaster Michael Sloan reflected: “The innovative and creative teaching and learning being delivered in our outstanding new building is helping to ensure that King’s remains the school of choice in the South West for intellectually curious and academically minded Sixth Form pupils.
