King’s Ely Junior pupils win medals at Judo Championships
Posted on 3rd Nov 2017 in School NewsTwo King’s Ely Junior students were victorious at the Area Regional British Schools Judo Championships.
Friends Joseph Sibson and Lucas Hilcenko, both aged 11, won a Silver and Bronze medal, retrospectively, at the Championships which were held in Thetford, Norfolk. The competition saw players representing their schools and competing in school year groups, further split into weight groups.
Joseph, who lives with his family in Ely, won a Silver medal in the Over 55kg category and Lucas, from Sutton, near Ely, won a Bronze medal in the Less than 42kg category. They both represented King’s Ely Junior in the Year 7 category.
The talented duo not only went home with medals but will also get priority entry to the National British Schools Judo Championships next year.
Head of King’s Ely Junior, Richard Whymark, said: “We were delighted that Joseph and Lucas did so well in the competition. Their hard work over the last few years has been rewarded with the success they so deserve and we will be wishing them every success at their forthcoming competitions too.”
