King’s Ely riders qualify for National Championships

Talented King’s Ely riders have qualified for the National Schools Equestrian Association’s (NSEA) National Championships.

Nine members of the King’s Ely Equestrian Team competed in the NSEA Arena Eventing, Jumping with Style and Dressage Competition at Keysoe, Bedfordshire, on September 17th.

The 80cms team were Ryan Shaw, Adele Shaw and Ellie Grimsey. The team rode some superb rounds but were unplaced. However, Adele won the class as an individual – a fantastic achievement at her first school’s event and in a class of 53 competitors.

Adele’s success didn’t end there. She also won the 90cms class, with some 57 competitors. The rest of the team; Ellie Grimsey, Ryan Shaw and Eleanor Fairey also rode superb rounds, placing them third overall and giving them a qualification for the Championship plate in December. Adele also qualified as an individual for the National Championships in October.

Katie Cameron rode as an individual in the 1m and 1m 10cms classes. Katie rode one of very few clears in the 1m class and was placed fifth out of 34 riders. She was also third in the 1m 10cms class, giving her a qualification at both heights for the Championship plate in December.

Rebecca Everitt was the only dressage rider on the day for King’s Ely and came away with a respectable 64%.

In the 70cms class were Ryan de Sousa, Harriet Froud and Imogen Smith. The team were unplaced but had a good crack at what was a tough course.

Manager of the King’s Ely Equestrian Team, Sue Cameron, said: “We are very excited for this year as we have had some very talented young riders join our squad, as well as a number of very enthusiastic children. This combination puts us in a strong position in competition.”
