King’s Rochester drama & theatre pupils support local charity with exceptional performance
Posted on 2nd May 2018 in School News, Drama, Performing Arts, FundraisingOn Saturday 17th March 2018 the Senior School drama company from King’s Rochester held a matinee performance of DNA by Dennis Kelly in aid of local homelessness charity Porchlight, raising an amazing £585.
£400 was raised from the ticket sales of the matinee and along with donations made at the box office on the day this brought the full total to £585. The cast presented a cheque to Nathan Tough, Community and Corporate Fundraising Officer at Porchlight at the end of the performance.
The Head of Drama at King’s Rochester, Steve Mount, said, ‘I was delighted that Porchlight were chosen to be the charity that King’s Rochester supports this year. The themes in DNA touch on social exclusion, solitude and friendship, highlighting scenarios that are all too familiar to those who use Porchlight’s services.’ As events in the play unfold, one character winds up sleeping rough – seemingly deserted by their friends.
King’s Rochester has been raising money for Porchlight throughout the school year. The matinee of DNA is just one of the recent events which have included Quiz Nights, a Jazz Night headlined by Austrian band Month of Sundays – and pupils will shortly be holding a sponsored sleep out in May.
