Leehurst Swan Latin pupils from Years 4 and 5 put on a short play in assembly. The play was called 'A Trip to the Baths' and explained some of the terms used at the Roman baths, such as Thermae (baths), Palestra (exercise yard), Apodyterium (changing room), hypocaust (underfloor heating), tepidarium, caldarium and frigidarium (warm, hot and cold baths respectively).
Pupils played the parts of cashier, lady, street sellers and slaves as well as the Emperor. They explained to the audience how a strigil and oil was used to scrape off sweat, and that on top of swimming at the baths, activities included chatting to friends, exercise and trading.
