Local business helps Froebelian pupils bring maths to life
Posted on 24th Jan 2018 in School NewsHorsforth delicatessen and café Pooky and Grumps on New Road Side in Horsforth welcomed some special customers last week.
Year 4 pupils from the Froebelian School visited the well-established Horsforth eatery as part of their maths lesson to learn about money and receiving change.
Each pupil ordered a drink and then had to work out how much change they should receive from £5.00. They then went on to work out how much each group had spent in total.
Froebelian Teacher, Mr Finan, said: “A big thank you to Pooky and Grumps for taking the time to help us bring our maths lesson to life. The pupils really benefited from seeing how maths skills apply to, and are an important part of, everyday life.”
Owner of Pooky and Grumps, Anna Mawhinney, said: “We were delighted to have such a polite and friendly group pay us a visit. Plus, hot chocolate with marshmallows is a sure-fire way to get kids motivated and interested in the relevance of money to their everyday lives.”
As one pupil summed up the visit: “It was so much fun and we had the best hot chocolate!”
