Lockers Park School dons denim to support Jeans for Genes Day
Posted on 21st Sep 2020 in School News, Charity and community work, FundraisingPupils and staff at Lockers Park School swapped their usual uniform attire for their favourite jeans as they joined in a gene-ius nationwide initiative organised by the charity Genetic Disorders UK: Jeans for Genes Day.
Did you know genetic disorders are the biggest cause of death of children aged 14 years and under? Jeans for Genes aims to fund vital care and support services for the half a million children in the UK that face the daily challenges of a genetic disorder. By asking us all to simply pull on a pair of jeans, the initiative provides grants to organisations for projects, day-to-day support, equipment, respite and events that bring together affected children and their families.
As part of the day, pupils at Lockers Park learned how genes can affect a child’s senses, movement, ability to learn or affect their appearance. The school hopes to raise over £350 from the fundraising activity.
Lockers Park Headmaster, Christopher Wilson comments: “Jeans for Genes Day has been a real success, galvanising the whole school community to help raise awareness and money for children with genetic disorders. 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the campaign, one which we have supported for a number of years, and we welcome everyone’s generous donations and getting behind this really worthwhile cause.”
