Mayfield School, the leading Catholic independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18, has been selected as a finalist in the category ‘Independent Girls’ School of the Year 2022’ in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards.

Mayfield is one of just six schools across the country to have reached this stage in the Girls’ School category. The overall aim of these national awards, now in their fifth year, is to showcase the achievements of the Independent School sector and celebrate the extraordinary and compelling student experience they provide. Hundreds of schools from across the country submit entries each year across 22 different categories. An awards ceremony for all Finalists will take place on Tuesday 11 October, during which the winners of each category will be announced.

Mayfield’s Headmistress, Antonia Beary, said: “Mayfield is a hidden gem, so I’m delighted to see the School recognised for providing an outstanding and aspirational education for all our girls.

“At Mayfield, we accept every girl for who she is and instil in her the confidence to find her strengths - wherever they may lie - and build on them. A Mayfield girl is challenged to set herself demanding targets and helped to find strategies to achieve them. We expect girls to think independently, to question their own and other people’s ideas, and to learn to make informed decisions.

“This year see us celebrate our 150th Anniversary at the Old Palace in Mayfield, and the ethos of our founder, Cornelia Connelly, to educate girls to meet the needs of the age, continues to ring true. The aspiration, resilience, values and skills we instil in the girls prepares them to respond to the challenges of the 21st century and to make a positive difference to the society in which they live.”
