The budding sportsman joined Millfield for its cricket provision, the unrivalled indoor Cricket Centre, outdoor facilities and coaching staff.
Gabriel boards at Millfield and is studying A levels in Art, PE and Media Studies. He hopes to pursue playing cricket professionally or have a career in media.
Gabriel said: “Opportunity’s like this don’t come around often and I am excited for the upcoming months as I am sure that I will learn a lot and develop as a cricketer. It is a brilliant opportunity and one that has been made possible to me personally by the incredible facilities we have here, but more importantly by the support I have received from Mr Garaway and the other coaches who have supported me throughout my time at the school. Because of this support and the work that I have put in, I feel like I am well prepared. All that is left now is to get up to match fitness over the next couple of weeks.”
Director of Cricket, Mark Garaway, said: “Gabriel has worked so hard over the past four years. His passion, personal drive and resilience have been the foundation of his development transforming him into the prominent Junior International Cricketer that we see today. His confidence and stature as a cricketer has grown exponentially in the last two years. He has taken every opportunity to learn and develop and will head off to the World Cup knowing that he couldn’t have done any more in preparation for the event.”
Gabriel becomes the seventh International Cricket Council (ICC) U19 World Cup player from Millfield since 2016 following in the footsteps of Tom Moores (Nottinghamshire), Finlay Trenouth, Lewis Goldsworthy, George Bartlett, Sam Young and Kasey Aldridge (Somerset). He is one of 17 Junior International Cricketers who have attended Millfield since 2014.
The ICC U19 Cricket World Cup will take place from 14 January – 5 February 2022. Scotland will compete against Australia, Sri Lanka and 2016 champions and hosts, West Indies, in the group stage.
