Millfield Prep pupil to rock Glastonbury Festival
Posted on 21st Jun 2023 in School News, MusicDrummer Laurie Swift takes to the stage after Elton John at Glastonbury Festival this weekend.
The Year 8 pupil at Millfield Prep School is in the band The Entitled Sons, with his three brothers and father and will perform at the World’s biggest festival on Thursday evening.
The Somerset rock band were joint winners of the Pilton Stage competition and will experience what many people can only dream of in their music career.
Laurie, aged 13, expressed his delight ahead of the weekend: “It feels amazing. Ever since I started playing music it has been a dream to perform at Glastonbury Festival. I am still quite baffled. It is the festival of all festivals, so it is a dream come true and I’m going to make sure I enjoy it.”
The Entitled Sons were formed two years ago during the pandemic, with their debut single ‘Break’ reaching the top 10 on iTunes. In June, their single ‘These Days’, in aid of Cancer Research UK, peaked at number five on the UK singles downloads chart.
Laurie and his three brothers: Raffey, Charlie and Billy, all attended Millfield.
Laurie described their style as “modern rock” and revealed how being in a family band will make it even more memorable:“It would be amazing to play at Glastonbury in any band, but getting the chance to play there with my family and my brothers, all that I am really close with, makes it even more special.”
The Entitled sons will be playing at the following times:
- Thursday 22nd Avalon Café 6pm
- Saturday 24th Avalon Café 7:45pm
- Sunday 25th Bandstand 4pm
- Sunday 25th Avalon Café 11:50pm
“Our slot on Sunday I am really excited about. It’s at 11.50pm after Elton John, and there’s not a lot of live music on, so hopefully we will be able to bring a lot of people in!”
This weekend will also see Millfield Prep School host their annual Rock N’ Pop concert, which Laurie will be missing for the first time.
“For the last five years, this weekend has always been playing the Rock n’ Pop concert at Millfield Prep. I’m missing it this year which I’m not very happy about, but it is Glastonbury and that is something you would never turn down.”
