Millfield swimmer selected for British Swimming World Class Programme
Posted on 8th Oct 2020 in School News, SportMillfield swimmer Tamryn van Selm has been selected for the British Swimming World Class Programme amongst the best swimmers in the country.
Lower Sixth Tamryn has been selected for the Great Britain Podium Potential programme which provides opportunities through access to training camps, competitions, funding, sports science and medical services as well as support from British Swimming performance staff and the national institute of sport programmes across the UK.
Tamryn will train and benefit from the programme alongside OM Brodie Williams, who will join her on the Podium Potential programme, and OMs James Guy and Cameron Kurle who have been selected for the Podium Programme.
Alongside her commitment to swimming, 17-year-old Tamryn from Greater London is studying three A levels in Maths, Biology and PE. Her ambition is to continue representing Great Britain at Junior and Senior level in competitions such as the World Championships and Commonwealth Games with the ultimate goal of competing in the Olympics.
Having started at Millfield earlier this term and boarding for the first time, Tamryn says; “Coming to Millfield I know that I will be challenged and that I will have more opportunities to develop as an athlete, with the amazing facilities that Millfield has to offer as well as the support from my coaches and teammates. I think it is important to be able to be pushed in training but to also be in an atmosphere that makes the tough sessions fun and enjoyable, and I am so excited to train in an environment that replicates that at Millfield for the next couple of years!”
53 athletes have been selected for the British Swimming World-Class programme for the 2020-21 season including Adam Peaty, MBE who has represented Great Britain competitively across the Olympic Games, World Championships and European Championships and England in the Commonwealth Games.
Tamryn is amongst a group of students who have been selected for development and performance programmes representing their respective countries: Upper Sixth Anna Morgan (Scottish Senior Silver Programme), Upper Sixth Rosie Morgan (Scottish Senior Bronze Programme), Lower Sixth Evan Jones (Scottish Youth Programme), Upper Sixth Ciara Morris (Welsh Elite Development Programme), Year 11 Solomon Williams (Swim Wales National Development Programme), Year 11 Carys Graville (Swim Wales National Development 2 Programme), Year 11 Aisling Rowlands (Irish Performance Pathway Programme), Year 10 Adam Graham (Swim England Phase 2 Programme) and Year 9 Ivan Hart, Year 10 Leo Ferguson, Year 10 Ethan Payne, Year 10 Thomas Duddridge, Year 9 Adam White, Year 9 Harrison Cox, Year 9 Lauchlan Parrott, Year 10 Frankie Hatchard, Year 10 Nicole De Pree, Year 10 Lily Ulyatt, Year 9 Ella Osborne and Year 9 Nomi Ganbaatar have all been selected for the Swim England Phase 1 Programme.
