More success for King’s Ely athletes!

A total of 15 pupils represented the district at the County Schools Athletics Championships in Peterborough. All students performed with credit on the day and five King’s Ely athletes qualified to represent the county at the Anglian Schools Athletics Championships.
The students who qualified were Ben Marshall – High Jump (new personal best) and Hurdles; Katie Cameron – High Jump (new personal best); Harriet Cheseldene-Culley – Triple jump; William Taylor – Javelin; and Billy McGrath – Discus.
On June 8th, a group of King’s Ely Junior’s Year 7 and 8 pupils also competed at the Regional Athletics Championships in Bedford. On the day, 12 personal bests were achieved, including: Jessica Harding (Javelin), Connor Marshall (Hurdles and High Jump), Thomas Jackson (Shot Put and Discus), Sophie Hillier (High Jump), Annabelle Gilbert (Triple Jump), Tabitha Lacey (High Jump), Connor Henry (300m), Ella Pickles (300m and 200m), Robert Banwell (800m) and the Year 8 Boys’ Relay Team.
There were some fantastic individual performances from a number of pupils, including: Annabelle Gilbert, Connor Marshall and the Year 8 Boys’ Relay Team, which was made up of Connor Henry, Connor Marshall, Calum McDonald and George Nearney, who secured third place in their event. These pupils are now on stand-by to compete at the prestigious National Prep School Athletics Finals.
This latest success comes just weeks after King’s Ely was crowned the winner of this year’s Isle of Ely District Athletics Championships. Students fought hard for every point and it paid off, with King’s Ely’s team winning an impressive 22 Gold, 15 Silver and 15 Bronze medals.
