Numbers in Year 3 at Highfield and Brookham Schools at a five-year high

Highfield and Brookham Schools are delighted that numbers in Year 3 have grown by over a quarter in the last five years.

Independent schools have faced a huge amount of financial and political pressure over the last few years and particularly in the last few months during the global pandemic. The Independent Schools Council reported in their 2020 Census and Annual Report that there has been a 2.5% decrease in the number of pupils in ISC schools in Year 3 and below since 2015.

However, Highfield and Brookham Schools appear to be bucking this downwards trend and have seen a healthy 26.3% rise in numbers of pupils in Year 3 from September 2015 to September 2020. And Year 3 is not the only year group looking strong for September 2020; Nursery, Year 5 and Year 8 are all above average as well. While numbers in other year groups remain steady.

Highfield and Brookham Schools are a Nursery, Pre-prep and Prep school for boys and girls aged 2-13. They are located in Liphook, Hampshire in the South Downs National Park and offer both day and boarding options. The school tends to see admissions numbers continue to rise throughout the academic year, as more families move to the area. In order to deal with the increase in demand, Highfield and Brookham will be introducing a waiting list for entry into Year 3. The waiting list is likely to still be in place for Year 3 entry in September 2021 and will consequently affect the number of spaces they have available for Year 4 entry next year. They anticipate this is likely to also increase the number of enquires for entry into Year 2, as parents look to secure their child’s place.

A current Year 3 parent said, “Highfield and Brookham is a very special place and we feel incredibly lucky to have moved from London and to have found it. Our children are having a wonderful education and childhood and they will always think of Highfield and Brookham fondly.”

There has been a huge investment into Highfield and Brookham over the last couple years, including a full-size Astro completed this year, a full refurbishment of the boarding dorms and this summer a specialised Nursery space will be renovated as they welcome 2-year-olds into the school for the first time.
