Oxbridge success for Headington School girls
Posted on 3rd Feb 2022 in School News, University StudySeven Headington sixth formers have received prestigious Oxbridge offers.
While offers for most UK universities are made gradually over the coming weeks, Oxford and Cambridge have now made all their offers, with four Headington students now headed for Cambridge and three to Oxford.
Hannah, Esme, Natalie and Rose are Cambridge bound, with offers in Computer Science, Land Economy, Law and Natural Sciences respectively, while Angelina and Katerina will both be studying Classics at Oxford while Biba will study Fine Art at Oxford.
Angelina, who joined Headington in the Prep School, is headed to Corpus Christi College. She said: “I feel very excited by the prospect of being able to immerse myself into the most well-known and extensive faculty of classics in the world. I am very grateful for the Classics Department and their dedication to helping me with my application process - I would not have made it without them!”
Biba also joined the School in the Prep School and received her offer from St Catherine’s College. She said: “I am over the moon to have the chance to study Fine Art at Oxford, and I am very thankfully for the support from my art teachers and the brilliant facilities in the Hive that definitely helped me get an offer.”
Esme is headed to Lucy Cavendish, Rose to Peterhouse and Hannah (another Prep School alumna) to Pembroke, while Katerina will take up a place at Trinity.
Katerina said: “I was so excited when I opened the offer! I've wanted this place for a long time, and it finally feels like my hard work has come to something. It's been wonderful having teachers for my whole time here at Headington (since Reception!) where I've always felt comfortable and supported. I'm so happy to be seeing this dream of mine come true. The way that I've been supported and celebrated has helped me so much.”
Celebrating remotely was Natalie, who received her offer for Newnham College at home in Hong Kong, having been unable to return so far this term due to quarantine and travel restrictions.
Assistant Head Academic Mr Alex Thomson, who co-ordinates Headington’s Oxbridge programme, said: “We are so delighted with this news and really proud of the girls for all their hard work. It can be a very stressful time for the girls as they wait for their offers to come through and it is important that we support them in every way we can through the UCAS and offer process, exams themselves and beyond.
“An Oxbridge offer is an incredible achievement and to be celebrated. We are equally excited for the other members of the year group who are starting to receive offers from competitive universities all over the UK and indeed the world – well done to all of them!”
