Skilful King’s Ely flautist, Pim, secures DipABRSM

Talented King’s Ely Sixth Form student, Pim Mahikote, has achieved her DipABRSM with the flute.

Pim, who is in Year 13, started playing the flute in Year 8 and says she loves how versatile the instrument is. She says achieving her DipABRSM (Diploma of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) with the flute has always been one of her goals.

Pim said: “For my DipABRSM, I had to perform a 35-minute recital, provide a programme of notes, discuss the musical elements of my chosen pieces in the exam and do a sight-reading test. I am so glad that I passed! It has always been my goal, so it is a big relief for me.”

Pim, who is studying Music, Maths and Politics at A Level, also plays the French Horn and Piccolo. Her success comes just months after another King's Ely Sixth Form student, Victoria Davis, was awarded her DipABRSM with the flute. It is two levels higher than a Grade 8 and one level higher than an ARSM Diploma.

Music is the beating heart of King’s Ely and is the reason why the school came into existence in the first place. Other musical successes so far this year include King’s Ely Senior student James Wilkinson being offered a place with the prestigious National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and King’s Ely Sixth Form student Lisa Lyu being awarded her Associateship Diploma from London’s Trinity College of Music (ATCL) for Piano Performance.
