St Swithun’s school’s U15 cricket team has won the regional Lady Taverners indoor cricket tournament at The Ageas Bowl. They defeated Queen’s College, Somerset in the final, meeting the target 39 runs in just five overs.

Progressing to the national finals at Lord’s cricket ground, the 10-strong team of girls competed against the winners of the other four regional tournaments and came in as runners-up, placing them second in the country.

PE teacher Sara Heffernan said “Cricket at St Swithun’s has become increasingly popular. Batting nets have been installed as a permanent fixture in the school sports hall to encourage year-round practice, and there are now three after school cricket clubs and one lunchtime training session every week. It is wonderful to see the results of this trend in the passion of the girls for the game and such a strong performance at a national level”.
