Sussex carers’ day at Burgess Hill Girls
Posted on 1st Mar 2024 in School News, Charity and community workOn Monday February 26th Burgess Hill Girls hosted a pamper day for local carers. Together with Burgess Hill Council, Burgess Hill Girls organises the pampering event to give carers, who spend their time tirelessly looking after others, a day where they themselves get looked after.
This year the carers could choose from pampering sessions including Indian head massages from The Therapy Hut, nail painting from Rosie’s Treatments and Spa and Health Foot Care, reflexology from Lila Davis, breathing therapy from Ditchling Yoga and haircut and styling from Smiles and Styles.
Carers were treated to a ploughman’s lunch and musical entertainment from students and staff at Burgess Hill Girls, who provided activities throughout the day including plant potting, card making, diamond painting, canvas decorating (courtesy of Poponin) and pom pom making.
Every carer was given a raffle ticket on arrival with a chance to win a selection of prizes from Jupp’s Fish n Chips, Wakehurst, Smiles and Styles hair salon, Triangle Leisure Centre, and Plumpton Racecourse.
Local organisations were also in attendance to answer questions and provide information to carers including Maximus, Carers Support West Sussex, Mid Sussex Older People’s Council, Mid Sussex Voluntary Action, MidSussex Wellbeing, WSCC Libraries, Young Carers WSCC, Triangle Leisure Centre, St Peter & St James Hospice, and Health and Living Support.
The carers hugely appreciated the attention they received.
Melody said: “It has been a lovely day full of pampering and activities. The girls were very patient, nice young ladies.”
Ray agreed: “The students were so helpful and answered all our questions. This is our first time, but we would love to come back next year.”
Burgess Hill Girls Year 9 student Anni also enjoyed the day: “It was a fun day full of activities. We loved teaching the carers how to do diamond painting!”
