Posted on 9th Dec 2022 in School News, New facilitiesA retired Taunton School teacher has officially opened a new library named in his honour.
John Carrington, an English teacher and former Deputy Head of Taunton School, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony of The Carrington Library, which was attended by scores of his former colleagues, alumni and current students and staff.
Mr Carrington said: “The new library is the most special place. It has a soul, it has beauty, it has a welcoming feel and it has an inspiring lift to it. I’ve had the pleasure of opening this absolutely wonderful library in memory of the happy times I had here and I’m sure everyone will appreciate it just as much as I have enjoyed the humble pleasure of opening it.”
James Johnson, Taunton School CEO and Headmaster, said: “In John’s time as Head of English and as Deputy Head he was an inspirational figure and to have that recognised in the naming of the library is very important.”
The Carrington Library forms part of an ongoing campus development plan to enhance Taunton School’s facilities. It includes a recently opened new sixth form centre, a new ‘green heart’ due to open in January 2023 and a state-of-the-art international school in the pipeline for 2026.
