Taunton School’s rising squash star competes in British Championships
Posted on 22nd Mar 2022 in School News, SportCommonwealth Games hopeful Oli Gribble, a student at Taunton School, is aiming high after reaching the British Championships at the age of 14.
The squash competitor took on players from all over the UK, finishing in 13th place out of 64 in the Under 15 category.
Oli, who started playing five years ago, vows to continue in his quest to one day reach the highest level. He said: “I’d like to get to the Commonwealth Games and I would also like it to be included as an Olympic sport in the future. It’s the fast pace of the sport that I love most. I love the physical side and it’s a joy to play at this level.”
Oli believes Taunton School has helped him develop the skills necessary to compete at a high level. He said: “I find that Taunton School offers a really good balance between academic and sporting success. I’ve developed a strong will to win and be the best I can be.”
Daniel Pettifer, Taunton School’s Director of Sport, commented: “It is amazing to see Oli competing at the highest level in squash. He is working hard, finding the time to train, study and keep up with all of his Taunton School commitments, which is a testament to his organisation, motivation and commitment. We are all very proud of his achievements and his attitude.”
