Out of thousands of young people who auditioned throughout the UK, Felsted School Year 11s Franky Slater and Hugo Carey have been selected for their acting talents, whilst Year 12 Dylan Law has been recognised for his skills in technical theatre (especially lighting and projection).

The NYT is a world leading arts organisation; established in 1956 it commissions new writing and reinterpretation of classics for young people in the company, like Franky, Hugo and Dylan to work on and perform in iconic venues at home and abroad.

Once the Felsted pupils have completed their induction, they will form part of the company and audition further for one-off, unique projects that happen around the country in the school holidays. Franky and Dylan will have their inductions this summer and Hugo plans to defer for a year, so that he can participate in the Felsted Rugby tour to South Africa first.

All three have been involved with Felsted’s productions over the past few years, with Franky and Hugo taking on major roles in recent productions of Les Miserables and Goodnight Mister Tom. Meanwhile Dylan, who aspires to have a career in stage lighting or video design, has provided technical support for every production staged in his time at Felsted, including Romeo and Juliet, and Jesus Christ Superstar, on top of those mentioned above.

The NYT has launched the careers of many aspiring actors and designers, alumni include Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Day-Lewis, David Oyelowo, Orlando Bloom, Catherine Tate, Ben Kingsley, Ashley Jensen, Matt Lucas, Hugh Bonneville, Matt Smith and many more.

Drama is a strong discipline at Felsted, with annual productions at every age group and an encouragement to take part in all aspects of theatre, from set design to music and lighting. Rehearsals are underway for the Years 5 and 6 production of Mary Poppins and auditions are currently being held for the Senior School Production of Beauty and the Beast in November.
