Top offers for Felsted students
Posted on 21st Feb 2020 in School News, Sixth Form, University StudyFelsted School has seen some excellent university offers for pupils this year, across a wide range of leading universities, with almost half from Russell Group Universities and three from Oxbridge.
Felsted Careers and Higher Education Department supports each student with their individual career path, whether this be applying for appropriate higher education courses, or securing the relevant work experience through the Felsted network of parents and former pupils. The interests of this year's cohort are wide, with offers for over 150 different subjects ranging from the Humanities, Economics and the Sciences (Veterinary Science, Medicine & Psychology) through to Film Production, Fine Art and Graphic Design.
Felsted Year 13 students, who can study either A Levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma at Felsted, have applied for a range of universities, the most popular choices include Exeter, Warwick, Nottingham, Loughborough, Bristol, Bath, KCL, UCL, Edinburgh, Reading and York.
Emma Jones secured an offer to read Veterinary Medicine at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Deputy Head Girl and a keen sportswomen, Emma is a member of the Felsted 1st hockey and cricket teams and was recently selected for the Surrey Stars Regional Development Centre as well as playing for Essex Women’s Cricket. Emma turned down the chance to represent Hong Kong last summer, as she hopes one day to break into the England Cricket team. She is also a member of the Felsted media team, Combined Cadet Force and is currently completing her Gold Duke of Edinburgh award.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma student Dominic Wells holds an offer to study Law at Sidney Sussex, Cambridge. Dominic throws himself into every area of school life from playing 2nd team rugby, winning the school’s annual public speaking competition, to being secretary general of this year’s Felsted Model United Nations Conference.
Oxbridge offers for Emma Jones, Dominic Wells and Charlotte Perry
Charlotte Perry is delighted to have received an offer to study Classical Archeology and Ancient History at Somerville College, Oxford. A Felsted prefect, Charlotte is a member of the student-led media team and a founding member of the new Felsted Pride society.
Head Boy, Oliver Butler has four offers to read Politics and International Relations at Bath, Newcastle, Nottingham and Newcastle, whilst Head Girl, Annabel Hills has four offers to read Liberal Arts at Nottingham, Exeter, Leeds and Royal Holloway all of which have been reduced due to her excellent application and EPQ (extended project qualification) result, a qualification that has proved valuable for many Felstedians in their UCAS applications.
David Townsend has received two excellent offers from Nottingham University and the Royal Veterinary College to secure his ambition to become a vet. Jack Tristani and Karathia King have received offers from Durham University to read PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) and Physics respectively, whilst Charlotte Guild, Rory Aitken and Samuel Hart all have offers to read Fine Art, Business Economics & Finance and Architecture respectively at Loughborough University.
Ms Louise Scofield, Director of Professional Guidance comments; "Many offers have been either unconditional or adjusted very favourably due to the quality of the application, allowing students to achieve lower grades than the advertised entrance tariff.”
Some examples include Natasha Farrow and Francesca Mazzilli who both hold adjusted offers from Exeter to study Psychology and Henry Dean, a top hockey player, who holds a heavily adjusted offer to read History and Political Science at Birmingham University. Victoria Barker holds four really good offers to pursue her ambitions in Hospitality Management, including an excellent adjusted offer from Bournemouth University. Noah Herrmann, an IB student, holds a full unconditional offer from Westminster to study Business Management.
Some Felsted students have applied for some highly specialised subjects, including Cameron Ambrose, who is pursuing a place for the only Horology degree in the UK at Birmingham City University and Louis Taupin, who holds two unconditional offers to study different ESports courses at Staffordshire University.
