Workshops put focus on learning at Churcher's College
Posted on 25th Sep 2017 in School NewsChurcher’s College Junior School pupils were enthralled by a day of workshops lead by the dynamic Rob Hughes from Learning Performance. The children considered how they learn and how they could improve their study skills.
The importance of a growth mindset was reinforced and how useful and important it can be to support new learning when faced with failure or mistakes. Rather than be disheartened, the children were encouraged to build on and learn from these experiences. The day was carefully designed to ensure pupils reinforced and further developed the skills they had gained last year. Year 2 learnt to juggle as part of the day as learning how to juggle provides a good analogy for the learning process – the way the mind and body learn and develops new skills, and links the two sides of the brain together.
In the evening parents attended a workshop in which teaching staff shared ideas on how they could best support their child with reading, mathematics and IT. Many parents commented on how useful and enjoyable the session had been and the children will continue to develop the skills they gleaned throughout the year in their curriculum studies.
