From the age of three, we welcome children into a community that is small enough to feel secure, but large enough to offer a huge breadth of experiences. Whether in our well-equipped Foundation playground, Forest School, or our cutting edge Futures Room, pupils are encouraged to think for themselves and develop their own ideas. Whether they are taking part in the School Council or joining in one of the many clubs, sports, music and drama activities, our pupils soon develop their own sense of responsibility. They learn to care about their work, to value their contribution to the wider school community and through many pupil-led fundraising initiatives, their eyes are opened to the world beyond school.
Our curriculum has been evolving, and we are excited to be part of the global community of schools delivering the Primary Years Programme (PYP) as part of the International Baccalaureate. The PYP places children at the centre of their learning, encouraging them to be active creators of transdisciplinary knowledge. It nurtures curious and driven learners who ask thought-provoking questions and aspire to make the world a better place for everyone.
It is really important that every child is known and valued. Although the Form teachers play a significant role in caring for their class, it is the small, regular interactions between all staff and pupils that make Brentwood such a welcoming and friendly school. With the familiarity the pupils and staff feel, it helps to create a more cohesive rapport, aiding in their learning.
Our award-winning facilities are something that we are very proud of, the kind that one would expect to see at secondary level. Highlights include a Futures Room – a place for experimentation – which can be transformed from the solar system to the bottom of the ocean or the chaos of a battlefield by the switch of a button.
Eight specialist classrooms include a music room, with cutting-edge music technology, two science rooms, an IT suite, a light and airy art loft, a design technology classroom with laser cutter and 3D printer, and a food technology suite with mini hotplates, ovens and child-height workstations.
Academically, our pupils are high achievers: they are consistently at the top of the field at age 11 and a large proportion achieve scholarships at the same age. We encourage all pupils to have the confidence to stretch themselves, to celebrate their own achievements and to be generous about the success of others.
Much has changed since we were founded in 1892, but our motto of Virtue, Learning, Manners remains and you will see that in droves when you visit us.
