Edenhurst Preparatory School is an independent, coeducational day school located in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire for pupils aged three months to eleven years.

Our aim is to inspire and support pupils in their learning, and to build a solid foundation for future success. Our dedicated staff and small class sizes help us to achieve this by creating a positive learning environment, with a healthy mix of play, discovery and responsibility. When the time comes for our pupils to leave Edenhurst, we take pride in their confidence and individuality, their passion for learning, and their ability to embrace all challenges they may encounter in later life.

We are very mindful of the importance of developing a partnership between school and home, maintaining regular contact between teaching staff and parents in order to best serve the needs of each child.

We have a vision to equip children with the necessary skills and attributes to thrive in a rapidly changing world which gives our children the 'Edenhurst Edge' - that little bit extra that sets them above their peers.

Our core values are clearly understood and shared by every member of the Edenhurst school community and we:

  • nurture - developing children's individual talents and gifts by providing an appropriate level of challenges.
  • inspire - using the latest technology to provide a broad and balanced curriculum delivered by Specialist teachers.
  • achieve - fostering a love of learning and equipping children with the necessary skills to succeed, achieving excellent results in all areas of school life.

The Edenhurst Nursery caters for children from the age of three months to four years old, offering the highest quality care in a safe, engaging and nurturing environment. Our qualified, friendly staff are dedicated to providing each child with all of the support and encouragement they need to learn and grow.

In Edenhurst Pre-Prep we work closely with each and every child, in order to support them in developing the skills and interests cultivated in the Early Years Foundation Stage. As well as English and Mathematics, pupils in Pre-Prep study Science, Geography, History and Religious Studies. In addition, children benefit from specialist teaching in Music, Art, ICT, French and P.E., which includes swimming. Upon entering the Prep Forms, a specialist subject based approach is adopted. Each subject is led by a teacher who is a specialist in their own field, allowing the children to benefit from their expertise and an enthusiasm derived from a genuine interest in each subject.

Pupils in the Prep Forms continue to build on their skills in English and Mathematics, as well as other core subjects, and preparation for entrance examinations at 11+ is an ongoing process at Edenhurst. Small class sizes of 20 or below are maintained to allow for the most advantageous pupil to adult ratio.

Children benefit from a careful and sensitive familiarisation with the demands of examinations, and parents are also invited to join the Headteacher for a discussion about future schooling. Edenhurst has an excellent record in preparing children for transfer to senior school at age 11, and each year a number of children gain scholarships to a range of schools.
