About Farlington School
Located in Horsham, West Sussex, Farlington School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school and nursery for ages 6 months to 18 years. Set within 33 acres of parkland on the borders of Sussex and Surrey, Farlington offers a perfect rural backdrop with plenty of space to grow. Formerly an all-girls' school, Farlington began welcoming boys in 2018 and has been fully co-educational since September 2021.
At Farlington, we strive to help our students develop confidence and self-belief, both inside and outside the classroom. Our core values constantly seek to develop Individuality, Opportunity and Community. Individuality is about recognising and celebrating each student's voice. Our constant aim is to enable opportunities for our pupils to learn across our full and extensive curriculum. As a true 'through school' and nursery, we provide a caring and cohesive community, in which each child is recognised as a valued and valuable member.
Pastoral care, wellbeing and fun are at the heart of a Farlington education, and we passionately believe that happiness enables success. Here, friendships are forged for life, and our emphasis is on promoting respect for others, celebrating teamwork, and developing collective responsibility.
Extra-Curricular Provision
Farlington offers an extensive extra-curricular provision, incorporating sporting, creative and enrichment options. Our twice daily activities programme allows every pupil to be involved in an enrichment activity - outdoors or indoors; practical, intellectual or unusual. We offer a range of extra-curricular art, music, dance and drama clubs, and provide a varied and inclusive extra-curricular sports programme.
Academic Success
Farlington students consistently achieve outstanding results at GCSE and A-Level. In 2024, our A-Level results were exceptional: 77% of grades awarded to Farlington students were A*-B and 87% of grades were A*-C. Our 'value added' was especially impressive, with 82% of students achieving one grade above expected in at least one A-Level, and 42% of all grades awarded being two grades above expected. Furthermore, 85% of our Year 13 students secured a place at their first choice of university. Our GCSE results in 2024 were equally impressive: 42% of grades awarded to Farlington students were 9-8; 56% of grades were 9-7, and 90% of grades were 9-4. The number of grade 9s achieved by Farlington students has increased for the second year in succession, showing a 53% increase over the past two years.
Alumni & Awards
Notable Farlington alumni include Olivier Award-winning actor and puppeteer Romina Hytten, and Issy Hayes, now a successful triathlete and part of the England Next Generation talent squad. Over recent years, Farlington art students have triumphed in prestigious art competitions, including the ISA National Art Competition and the RBA's Rising Stars and Star Students Competitions. Farlington was shortlisted for the Outstanding Response to Covid-19 Award at the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2021.
Recent Developments
Following the arrival of Headmaster James Passam in 2021, exciting developments at Farlington have included a stylish new Sixth Form Refectory, and the introduction of design & technology, together with a brand new D&T Workshop and Graphic Design Lab. Farlington has also improved its dance offering, with a new fully equipped Dance Studio and the subject now available to students both as part of the curriculum and in the form of extra-curricular examination and non-examination classes. In September 2023, Farlington opened its own nursery provision, Little Farlington, which caters for babies and children from 6 months to 4 years.
