Herne Hill School is the leading stand-alone independent school in the country focusing exclusively on cutting edge Early Childhood Education (from the age of 2+ to 7+), the most crucial period in a child's life.
Herne Hill aims to provide young children with the best possible start for a successful and balanced academic life. The school's ethos of Love - Care - Excellence encapsulates our commitment to excellence and our belief that love and care are prerequisites for a top-quality education. The school's expert staff ensures the atmosphere at the school radiates this philosophy. It is a caring, friendly, fun, supportive and well-resourced environment conducive to optimal learning and development.
The approach at Herne Hill School is designed to nurture the children's innate curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and to help them progress seamlessly from play-based to more structured learning, preparing them to move on at the age of 7+ into Year 3 at independent or state schools, with that special Herne Hill School spark.
We believe in developing the whole child through a unique, continuous five-year curriculum and providing extensive opportunities to foster individual talents and skills. We introduce specialist peripatetic instructors from Pre-Reception for music, PE/Sports, French and dance, while other prominent subjects like outdoor learning, art, drama, IT and woodwork are taught by our class teachers and overseen by dedicated coordinators.
There are about 300 pupils, split into the Kindergarten at our dedicated and state-of-the art site at 99 Herne Hill, which then feeds into two years of Reception Cycle followed by two years of Key Stage 1 at our main site at 127 Herne Hill. The sites are only a 3-minute walk away from each other and benefit from exceptional outdoor areas, providing all our children with nature-centric opportunities for outdoor learning and play that are unique for being in the middle of London.
The early childhood years are magical and at Herne Hill School we want to keep that magic alive.
