Set in 25 acres of beautiful grounds it aims to spark curiosity and ignite wonder in each child, through an inspiring learning environment and boundless opportunities for discovery and exploration.
Holmwood House firmly believes that schools are about discovery and growth which is why they focus their education on sparking curiosity and igniting wonder in and out of the classroom. Small class sizes allow their high quality teachers to create inspirational learning environments to inspire, support, and challenge each girl and boy for just that goal. Holmwood is a family school; they believe in partnership between pupils, teachers and parents to enable each individual girl and boy to thrive and achieve their potential in and out of the classroom.
The school's extensive grounds and fantastic facilities allow pupils to learn new skills and find their niche. The academic curriculum is ambitious and challenging, but with stretch and support for all individuals. Holmwood is committed to providing a broad and balanced education so that each girl or boy can discover their own academic, artistic, musical, creative and physical potential and help them to flourish.
Early Years Curriculum
Holmwood House’s Early Years Curriculum in their Preschool and Reception classes provides an environment that is stimulating and exciting to young minds, enabling every child to develop as an independent learner. They provide a warm caring atmosphere where children learn to be independent, confident, sociable and develop a positive approach to learning. Every day offers dedicated time to phonics and numeracy complemented by lessons taught by specialist teachers including: French, Music, ICT, PE, Swimming, Outdoor Learning and Racket skills. The school has recently expanded their Preschool on their Lexden site and is now open to children aged 2 and over. This expanded provision complements the school's Nursery in Great Horkesley which takes children from 6 months.
Prep School and Senior School Expansion
Already well established as a successful prep school (shortlisted this year for Independent Prep School of the Year Award) the school regularly sends their children to local Grammar Schools and national boarding schools. Building on this strong foundation of the Prep School, Holmwood House has recently made the exciting announcement that it is adding a Senior School and is expanding up to the age of 16 (Year 11), so pupils can now stay on and sit their GCSEs. This exciting development will give pupils the opportunity to continue on at Holmwood House and enjoy an academically rigorous curriculum supported by a wide range of enrichment opportunities and exceptional pastoral care.
Children's learning journeys can begin at a number of stages:
