Kew Green Preparatory School (KGPS) is a co-educational, independent school for children aged 2 to 11, nestled in a peaceful corner of Kew Green near Kew Gardens in Richmond. Owned by the Gardener Schools Group, a family founded company, KGPS is the sister school to Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School, Kew House Senior School and Maida Vale Senior School. KGPS recently expanded, opening Kew Green Nursery in September 2022. Kew Green Nursery is located at a new site close to the main Prep school. Kew Green Nursery children receive an automatic place in Reception at the Prep school. Consequently, children can attend KGPS from ages 2 to 11, and, if desired, ages 2-18 within the Gardener Schools Group.
KGPS is housed in an attractive building, with an abundance of outside space and surrounded by trees and the river Thames. Amidst its countryside setting for a London Prep school, KGPS provides an education of the highest quality, with high expectations and ambition set for all pupils.
We provide an engaging, broad and forward-thinking curriculum where all pupils are challenged within their learning. We prepare pupils for 11+, receiving offers and scholarships from a range of independent London day schools and 11+ boarding schools. Additionally, KGPS offers pupils the opportunity to attend either one of its sister Senior Schools, Kew House or Maida Vale, through a guaranteed place for Year 7.
In addition to the core lessons, specialist teaching is timetabled for Art & DT, Music, PE & Games, Swimming, French, Spanish and Computing in all year groups, Nursery - Year 6. In our Nursery and Reception classes, we schedule weekly Forest School sessions which take place either on the green or in Kew Gardens. Our school calendar is full of enrichment opportunities, including a full trip, residential and workshop schedule as well as a wide-ranging specialist extra-curricular club provision for all pupils. We also have a healthy competitive side when it comes to sporting fixtures.
At KGPS, we champion curiosity, creativity, confidence and collaboration in all areas of school life and learning. Importantly, we enable our children to succeed, be recognised and feel valued. We continue to look ahead, aiming to ensure our education is purposeful and relevant. We strive to mould young citizens and future adults who are resilient, adaptable, articulate and active learners. Importantly, we prioritise the development of strong self-esteem alongside academic progress.
In addition to scheduled parent and school events, we have an ‘Open Door’ policy for our parents, and this further strengthens the excellent partnership between school and our families.
