Pupils thrive at King Edward's. Our unique heritage and place amongst British co-educational independent schools means that we can provide the very best preparation for adult life to the widest range of young people.
King Edward's offers your son or daughter a school that feels as warm and welcoming as home. A springboard to a lifelong love of learning which nurtures confidence, fosters collaboration and prepares them for life in their future world. This is a school shaped by generosity of spirit, not by background.
Academic focus
A King Edward's education is a rounded education. All academic staff are subject specialists, pupils take GCSE/IGCSE in Year 11 followed by a choice of A-level courses in the Sixth Form. Young people discover skills, talents and enthusiasms they never knew they had and are encouraged to set their sights high and be ambitious in their learning. Our rich co-curricular programme broadens their horizons.
Pastoral
All our pupils benefit from small class sizes and our House system with its supportive pastoral networks at the heart of school life. Each House is committed to strong connections uniting and blending boarders and day pupils into a single team. We have been united by our diversity since 1553; our international pupils come from over thirty countries, joining pupils from Surrey, London and beyond in our global community.
Boarding
King Edward's offers a thriving boarding programme with senior boys and senior girls Houses for day, weekly and flexi boarders. Lower School pupils in Years 7 and 8 live in Queen Mary House, an impressive family-oriented building steeped in a warm, rich history. Each House has a pastoral team consisting of a House parent and assistant House parent, Matron and an academic tutor. Additionally, there is a 24-hour Medical Centre and an on-site chaplain. Mindful of our responsibility to prepare our pupils for the next stage in their educational journey, in September 2022 we opened an impressive Upper Sixth Form House that represents a stepping-stone to the independence and the full higher education experience our pupils transition to at high quality Universities in the UK, and internationally. The House provides a unique opportunity, allowing pupils to study independently while honing important life skills, in a vibrant, communal environment consistent with student campus accommodation.
Hobbies and activities
On our beautiful, 100-acre learning environment amid the Surrey Hills we have space for the widest range of our pupils' sport, drama, music, hobbies, and intellectual pursuits. King Edward's is a wonderfully safe place for youthful adventure and curiosity. The school creates a foundation for life both now and for the future. Our timeless education reaches far beyond the exciting and challenging academic curriculum and the broad range of opportunities in all areas of school life - fully exploring sporting, artistic, social and cultural.
Pupils leave as independent free-thinkers - agile, motivated, and self-disciplined. The creative, entrepreneurial thinking developed here gives our next generation of inventors, designers and problem-solvers the ability to grasp life with both hands.
